I don't know if it was posted before or not I did look but didn't find any thread like this so making one.
A Simple question: What school you in?
College: Pls do care to tell us which sem and wat is ur major?
School: Includes 1 to 12 grades but I know in subcontinent 11th and 21th grades r college so pls vote for college IF U BELONG TO SUBCONTINENT AND R IN EITHER 11TH OR 12TH GRADE.
Islamic Studies: R u becoming hafiz? or any other islamic studies?
Home schooling: if u can do tell us the reason why u chose home schooling.
Others: if I miss anything.
as for myself, alhamdulillah I am a Maths major, 3rd sem insha Allah.
is there anything more u wanna know do add in ur own post. :D

Erm, not sure exactly what you want to know..
Basically my school runs like this. At the beginning of the semester they give us all the curriculum and give us a run down of what is expected from us. Then during the rest of the semester I go once a week to the school to pick up homework and drop off homework and take tests or quizes whenever I have to. And thats when I speak to the teachers and they help me with any problems, etc. When I was taking science, I used to do the labs and that stuff when I went once a week..
The only stuff that I never did at school was PE. :D I got to do that whenever I wanted, and fill logs to tell 'em what I did/how long..
Over here we don't have college at home, so I'm not sure if that works the same for you'll. *unsure* I know some friends of my sister's who did university at home in South Africa. I think they did it online.. And they took their tests at some testing location.
Anyways, I'm not too sure what exactly you wanna know, so if you have any questions lemme know and I'll try to answer inshaAllah. :)

I wanted to change the original question 'What school are you in?' to.... Where would you like to be studying? Some people i know are continuing with education i.e. college after the compulsary GCSEs, for the sake of their parents... Is this a good enough reason for our muslim youth to be exposed to western influences; free mixing etc?
It is difficult for muslims to maintain their faith and practice islam completely in this sort of surrounding...homeschooling would be a good solution...but the muslim youth should also be aware of the outside world... i say we need single sex colleges...and more islamic education available...what do you guys think?
And also sister mm_ca04...what are your career plans?

Ah, kewl sis amani. :thumbs_up I'll check that out fully jus now.
I know a few sisters are doing their BA online, but I dunno if thats only available for certain majors or what. Cuz not too many uni's here offer uni @ home stuff. :'( I'll look around more tho. :D
Sis Warrioress, hehe, good question. Ermm.. Welll, I was thinking about becoming a doctor, but then thats a stressful field and takes really long... But I'll figure that out for sure when I take a couple science classes this semester in college. :) Its either medicine or computers.. Those are the two that I've always aspired to do anyway. :)

Is 'college' used in the American sense of the word which also includes 'University' in its defintion?
I've just finished the first year of Law at university.

When I was not Muslim, I admit to cheat on exams and i love to pass around my papers for my classmates when Im confident with my answers :D and it also happend I was 1st in the class, it is shame that I don't deserve it haha... ;D
But in real life, I don't really cheat especially I (hope
indeed) have Allah now in my LIFE, even THINKING many times to accept a $1 food as treat from someone, if ever I accept it I would return it 10times :D

Yeah, that's right title,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I mean I started working at very early age, when I reached 15, i got fed up at school, my family would like me to study Nursing but "OH WELL" I just cant, I hate hospital, the smell of medicine and on top of that, it's a sad place,,, today someone cut his finger, tomorrow someone cut his feet and the next day someone his cut HEAD...! What a scenario???
So basically,
I dont have a degree, I went to get some diploma in IT course (not a deal at all) and if someone ask me whether I'm educated, I can say yes I am in ISLAM, I am willing to go for another 5yrs too :D
which is opposite of my husband, he wants to get a Master degree ...
HAHA! goodluck
For people who thinks about degree alot, I can say that what's written for us is what's written for us, if we will get 50,000 $ our whole life, we wont get more than that, I am not saying dont get degree, I am just saying that money is blessings from Allah.
I am employed and I like stability, alhamdollelah been in same company for almost 8yrs now....
and I have small business too and it's pretty satisfying, the secret is not just education, on top of education its
prayer, hard work and patience (I have patience in business but not in daily life looool)

seeing quite a few brothers and sisters are starting college this year just some advice dont take a subject unless your going to enjoy it and your passionate about it however DONT TAKE A SUBJECT YOU DONT LIKE OR YOUR NOTSURE ABOUT BECAUSE YOUR PARENTS TOLD YOU TO OR YOU ARE PRESSURED INTO IT because youll just get bad grades if you dont like the subject you wont want to work you wont be paying attention in lessons then youll fail your exams and youll have trouble when it comes to applying to university remember its your life as long as you are doing things within the boundries set by allah dont let someone else try to relive their life through you

NO.You are wrong......I think parents should interfear in deciding the child's career....they are more experience ,they know best what will be good for their children.
I agree with you if don't like anything, any field in which you are not interested....but your parents are telling to do that.....Initially you may find some difficulties .but if you have a trust on your parents, you will start liking that subject, that field.

I agree you shouldnt just take subjects that someone tells you to, however, you wont necessarily fail them if you dont like them. Some people are naturally very intelligent, some of my friends didnt like certain subjects at school but still got really high grades.

I dont think parents should tell their children what to do. At the age in which they have to decide, they are old and wise enough to make their own decisions. It also gives their children independence. Also if the children start failing they cant blame it on anyone but themselves.
Times change, and what was popular at the time your parents were in school is different to whats popular now (for careers). Parents also should not enforce particular subjects just because their friends/relatives' kids have become professionals in particular careers (e.g. So and so's daughter is so clever, she is a lawyer/doctor, my daughter should become one too!).

Parents can give advice by all means but as long as the child is not doing a subject that goes against islam or will be bad for them then the parents shouldnt force them into a subject they dont like if a parent is going to force their child into a career thats going to make them miserable for the west of the life then they arnt very good parents my parents always tell me do what you enjoy as long as its halal and theirs a viable career at the end i can understand if the child wants to do a subject that wont get them a decent job like football studies ect but if the child wants to do law or accountancy but the parents want them to become a doctor so they can boast to the rest of the family (as often is the case) ect the parents shouldnt force them because at the end of it the child wont enjoy their job they wont work properly so they will get sacked or if they are in college or uni they wont want to work and they will get bad grades they wont find a job and they will basically be a waste living off benefits because they have failed their exams

College for now. I have a hard time enjoying the same subject for a long time. Initially it was economics, then law and now marketing. I am totally confused about my future.

I'm concerned. Why are so many people spending thousands to get a degree? :skeleton: You can use that money to save up for a deposit towards a house...
