Alhamdulillaah, all the Shaikhs that I know are very good reciters.
One or two individuals who know me personally would not doubt about who my favourite reciter is.
And here is a sample, which I hope you'll be able to hear.
http://quran.islamway.com/hosary/025.ram
It is worth distinguishing between 'Tajweed' and the 'pitch' or 'freshness' of the voice. If it comes to the 'sweetness' of the voice, one has to admit that Sudais is probably the one.
And everyone should have a reason for their favourite reciter. For me, it is the calmness and proper pronunciation of the letters without disguising too much with the voice, as well as reading with inner emotion. This is not my only opinion as many people recognise this.
Anyway, I am saying too much!! The question is 'Who is your favourite reciter', not why I suppose... But maybe we should include that to see different people's reasons...
Thank you for your patience and finally the name of the reciter is:
'Shaikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hosary'

Salaam,
I have many favourites. Sudais, Shuraim, Talib, Ajmy, Ghamdi, Efasi, they are all good.
I was going to mention Husary, but my dear brother A. Mukhtar beat me to it.
I have a gift for you Br. Mukhtar. The BEST place to listen to Hosari is not islamway but here:
http://www.ahlanbi.com/Quran/husary_downloads.htm
They download as ZIP files and they have a quality recitation that I have never heard on any other site. Listen to Al_Furqan, it is very beautiful.
So, I am now going to present my top two favourite recitors..... Reply

Reasons I like recitors:
Sudais - expressive of the meaning of the verses
Shuraim - deep smooth
Husary - Crystal clear and strong
Matrood - moving, emotional yet steady and flowing
Ayoub - hmm hard to describe, very active recitation

Ansar Al-'Adl, you've provided very good reasons.
"Sudais - expressive of the meaning of the verses
Shuraim - deep smooth
Husary - Crystal clear and strong
Matrood - moving, emotional yet steady and flowing
Ayoub - hmm hard to describe, very active recitation"
For Shaikh Mahmoud Al-Hosary, "clear and strong", that's probably the description I lacked. And another one is for Sudais "expressive of the meaning of verses". Very true. When listening to Sudais, without even understanding the arabic meaning, you can feel the atmosphere through the 'intonation'... raising and dropping of the voices.
I had completely forgotten Al-Matrood; he is a good reciter. I remember my sister had his cassettes.
And thanks for the new website Ansar Al-'Adl.
Riaz, he's also blew me away. He has a truly beautiful voice. I turned it off when I could no longer keep still on my chair!!

Yes brother Ansar i do have a little bit more information which i would like to inform you.
He use to read in Masjid Nabwi for afew years but he has stopped reading in the last 2 or 3 years due to some reason.
Also when my dad went Haj 3 years ago he mentioned that he made salam with him and that he was very young and had a small beard.
But unfortunatly when i went umrah last year he wasn't there however i got to make salam with Huzayfi,Abdul Muhsen Al-Qasem,Thobaity, salah ul budair, sheikh SALEH, Sheikh Usama Khayat and Sheikh Sudais.
If anybody is going umrah and would like to know how to make salam to the imams please ask me .

sudais simply because he has become the "standard" when one talks about the quran! SubhanAllah! I mean if you just think about how the quran should be read then his voice quickly enters the mind.
Shuraim because his newer way of reciting is as if you are a little boy 7-8 yrs...and he is inviting you to listen to a story....subhanAllah! simply amazing....

Yeah...Sheikh Al Talib is amazing mashaAllah. :) I also like Sheikh Shuraim and Sheikh Sudais. Lately I've been listening to Sheikh Budayr also.. He led once in Masjid Al Nabawi while we were there, and even though the other Imaams do read wonderful and uniquely, his really touches you.. Well like another member said, he is on a league of his own. I think Sheikh Shuraim is awesome live too..

yess. i met him last month when i went to makkah to do hajj. my friend told me that if you want to meet the imaam you have to wait at gate no 5 or 6 in haram masjid. so i waited there after marghrib then i saw him ( sheikh saleh). he looked at me too but i dont know what to say because i cannot speak arabic. he's quite good looking. :teeth: :teeth: but i wonder how old is he.? do you know?

There are some recitors I wanted to vote for too, and some other members didn't know they could vote for multiple recitors.
So how about this idea...
Should we redo the poll?

The only way for me to redo the poll would be to make a new thread with a poll and merge the two threads. But you can't merge two polls. So I had to get rid of the old poll. The only way to do that would be to split the old thread and that meant losing the first post, which was Sajjad's. Your post was the second post, so it became the first after I merged the threads.

He has music videos? Well..I'm not into his recitation..Its beautiful to some and thats fine. :D Like another bro has said before, nobody comes close to Shuraim and co. :D
Muhammed Barrak was around 14 yrs old and a full hafez when he led Taraweeh in a masjid in Bahrain or Kuwait I think.. Pretty sure it was Kuwait. At 14 he was really good, haven't heard his more recent recitations..
Here is his recitations

bro SST recitations is not as spectacular as it was in ramadhan but he is good just wish he read with his old tune. that was mashallah so good. but shuraims recitation differs him from everyone else. he is in a league of his own

Assalamo-alaikum-wa-rahmatullah-hey-wabarakatu
Bro AS, how come u didn't vote for SST ??
Becuz SS is (in my opinion) a much better recitor of the quran. SST is good mashallah but not SS level yet - maybe a few years - although ramadhan just gone I heard him pray in haram and he improving and prayed beautifully most times.
Also it was a close one between SS and Salah Budair - but SS just tipped it.
ABDULLAH "SST" :D

I think SS is much better recitor than Budayr. i would put (out of 10) Shuraim=10 Sudais=9 Budayr=7 Salih Talib=5.5 that is my honest opinion
soon Budayr and if Slih goes back to his old tune then they will both overtake Shuraim not soon maybe 6 or 7 years later

Well.......I reckon that if you are honest you will always have ONE favourite recitor - put it this way if someone said to you here are 2 CD's - CD 1 - SS and CD 2 - SAS and someone said you can have 1 which one would you take to listen to first???????

You're too right the pressure is on!
Well.. the thing is.. it depends what CD it is?
..cos the whole Qur'an by SS is available masha'Allah whereas not with SST. SST just has a few surahs.. now if someone gave me something DIFFERENT of SST's then I think I'd go for SST. :zip:

although sas recitation in the early 90s was world class he has changed an awful lot but still mashallah he is good. as for sst he had a beautiful recitation in taraweeh but now he has changed dramatically
