The authorities needs our help to can fight against of the illegal trade in wildlife. To can prevent the extinction of wildlife tortoises and other wildlife animals we are the first which should take measures. The traders are pushed behind by the people which are able to offer high prices only to can eat the tortoise. In the moment when the tortoise will remain on the shop not sold i think they will not be interested to bring them anymore.

    What should be done?
    at our leves:
    1. STOP to buy them on the markets, no matter for what: like food or pet - its a wildlife which needs space to can live
    2. for more brave people: announce the police immediatelly

    at authorities level:
fight against the smugglers , like we could read here
A trail of droppings led Kenyan airport staff to 228 live tortoises packed as "shells" and destined for Thailand, officials said on Thursday.

"Airport staff heard movement and funny noises in the containers," said Gichuki Kabukuru of Kenya Wildlife Services. "They notified us when they saw the droppings."

Kabukuru said the leopard tortoises, named for their spotted shells, had arrived in metal crates from neighbouring Uganda.

They would be cared for at an animal orphanage in Kenya's capital Nairobi while an investigation was carried out, he said.

To can understand better why should we not buy them for food , i think this small article says all:
. She will then dig a hole about a foot across, deposit 6-15 eggs, and cover the hole with soil. Breeding goes on all year, with a peak in the rainy season, and a brood of eggs buried about once a month. After 10-15 months of incubation, the young tortoises will emerge and go immediately into hiding. Only after 3-5 years when they are large enough to escape being crushed by lions and hyenas, the young tortoises will come out into the open.

Often we buy food without to know from where come from. The main market its in Asia, especially Thailand.
Its a meat which here we don't eat but who has it in diet i think would be great to know this tortoises are protected in their countries and should be not eaten at all.
