Asalam alaykum
through my journey of becoming muslim and actually practising i USE to listen to music constantly literally could not stop, due to a dream i had which i believe was from Allah, i literally stopped from that day Alhamdulilah, i do sometimes find it hard to stay away as it was one of the harder things for me to give up, and some days I'm very tempted by it, so i gave my iPod to my friend so i can't listen to it so easily & deleted it off my phone (which was very hard indeed!)
when i was researching about music and why it was haram, and was told that nasheeds could be my alternative, i then read that nasheeds are allowed and others have said that nasheeds are NOT allowed... a bit confused ?
i always hear nasheeds on islamic videos as their intros so would like to clarify, before i take the step of putting them on my iPod
is listning to music acapella (no beat or instruments) allowed, where there is no bad message, swearing, or defamatory like most of music today
is this what makes music haram the instruments and message ?
is there a reason why the only musical instrument allowed is the duff drum (i think thats what its called)
(sorry but i missed class where the hadeeths of music were covered so wasn't able to ask these questions and always wanted to know these things)
