What does your (real) name mean?

some thread spurred me to pose this question, so to begin....

Salmaan - which means peace

was also the name of the famous companion Salman al farsi

it was also the name of the prophet suleymaans father. Salman is bigger peace, Suleymaan the sons name is lesser peace.

the girls names Salma and sulaym being the equivalent to Salman and suleyman.

I dunno why i chose my name, but i think it sounds cool so i guess thats why i chose it and i was also looking for some meaning to it.

Oh yea and farhan ur name can also be used as a verb example: Ana Farhan meaning I'm happy. thats awesome!!

I choose my own muslim name because I am proud of it and it reminds me that I am muslim even though I live in the 'west'. :)

Although its not a name of the Sahabah.. But its a female of a title of a noble Prophet Alayhis salaam. :zip:

In Arabic it means, happy, pleasant .. and along those lines :D

My name in Hebrew, Yoshiyahu, means G-d's fire

My name in Arabic, Hassan (thanks Ansar!), means beautiful, IIRC.

Your Hebrew name would be Tsipporah (sometimes transliterated as Zipporah, the first letter is pronounced like the z's in "pizza"), which means "bird".
