Istikhara Dream - What does it mean?

I did a Istikhara prayer for guidance about a women i want to marry and in my dream i saw a women without seeing her face standing with closed hands and she opened her hands and bright light came out and it ended. Does anyone know what this means?

and also if during Istikhara you dont get no sign should you still go through with it?

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, my brother you should really be telling a learned and experienced scholar to give you the interpretation of this dream as none of us here have the knowledge to interpret dreams. Find a good local experienced and learned scholar and he should be able to interpret it for you inshallah. I pray whatever is best for you will happen inshallah.

As brother Hamza explained, you need to see a scholar to interpret your dream, though I think it's difficult to find many scholars specialized in dream explanation, coz it's a very difficult job which need a big knowledge and a help from Allah.

Concerning istikhara prayer, I don't know a single hadeeth saying that when you make istikhara you should expect a dream telling you what to do. Istikhara is intended to ask Allah to make the right choice for you. It should be like that :
1) you opt for one choice. (you have to make a choice before making istikhara).
2) make istikhara (prayer + dua) : ask Allah to make the best choice easy for you.
3) if the choice you made in 1) is good then Allah will help you in that way, but if the choice you made is not good for you, then Allah will prevent you from doing it (you find obstacles and difficulties telling you that choice is impossible)

I totally agree with this.

And brother London1138, it is also that sometimes "istikhara" doesn't even work!

I suggest you, like everyone else here, to consult a scholar and if Allah wants it for you and approve of it, then you'll actually start feeling it to be the right choice.

I wouldn't advise you to openly ask for an interpretation that may, in its apparent image, seem good. Someone could give the wrong interpretation or worse yet purposely mislead you. You should ask for a knowledgeable person whose piety and trustworthiness is sound and who will be able to give you the right interpretation.

And brother London1138, it is also that sometimes "istikhara" doesn't even work!

Do you have a doubt in Allah?

If you are not seeing a response from your istikhaara, whether this response is immediate or delayed, then that means there is a problem with you and not your Lord.

1) If you are being hasty in wanting a response from Allah then Allah will not respond to you.
2) If you give up on supplication Allah then he will not respond to you.
3) If you have committed a sin that stands between you and the response from Allah then seek forgiveness or he will not respond to you.
4) If you lack knowledge, trust or hope in Allah then he will treat you according to your faith in him.
5) If you think bad thoughts of Allah, any negative thought, he may not respond to you.

If you do not see a response from Allah then it is as the famous Ibrahim Bin Adham said when he was asked as to why our supplications do not get accepted even though Allah has said, “And ask of me; I shall grant you…"

Ibrahim Bin Adham answered:

Your dua’s do not get answered because your hearts are dead.

They said, ‘why are our hearts dead?’

He answered,because of 8 things….

1- You know the rights of Allah upon you but you do not fulfill them.

2- You read the Qur’an but you do not act on its commandments.

3- You claim that you love the Prophet (may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) but you don’t follow his way.

4- You say we fear death, but you don’t prepare for it.

5- Allah says, Indeed shaytan is your enemy, so take him as your enemy…” but you obey him in committing sins and disobeying Allah.

6- You claim that you fear the hell fire but you have thrown yourselves therein.

7- You claim that you love paradise but you don’t make an effort for it.

8- When you get up from your beds in the morning, you throw your deficiencies behind your backs and involve yourselves with other peoples’ faults.
Thus you have angered your Lord, so why would He answer your prayers?

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, my sister there are certain people whom Allah has blessed with knowledge and the ability to interpret dreams so we should seek them out whenever we want our dreams intepreted. Here is a more detailed explanation on dreams according to the Islamic viewpoint:

Dreams According to Islamic Point of View

Dreams are broken into three parts according to the Sunnah:

Ru’yaa – good visions (dreams)
Hulum – bad dreams
Dreams from one’s self

Abu Hurayrah narrated Muhammad (S) said, “There are three types of dreams: a righteous dream which is glad tidings from Allah, the dream which causes sadness is from Shaitan, and a dream
from the ramblings of the mind. (Muslim)

True/Good Dreams

We can see true dreams are from Allah Ta’aala as Muhammad (S) said, “True dreams are from Allah and bad dreams are from Satan” (Bukhari).

True believers are more likely to happen to those who are truthful in their lives as Muhammad (SAW) said, “Those of you with the truest dreams will be those who are most truthful in speech” (Muslim) .

Good dreams are also from Allah Ta’aala. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “If anyone of you has a dream that he likes then it is from Allah. He should thank Allah for it and narrate it to
others.” (Bukhari) Good deeds consist of people doing Halaal (lawful) acts.

One should share their dreams with those they like as Muhammad (SAW) said, “If one sees a good dream, let him expect good, and not tell it except to those he likes.” (Muslim)

An example of this is Yaqoob (AS) telling his son, Yusuf (AS) concerning his dream about eleven stars and the sun and the moon prostrating to him (scholars have said the eleven stars were his brothers, and the sun and the moon represented his mother and father): “He said, “O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers lest they arrange a plot against you. Verily! Satan is to man an open enemy.” (Surah Yusuf 12:5) We know the half-brothers of Yusuf were jealous of him to begin with so telling them the dream would probably only serve to increase the jealousy.

Muhammad (s.a.w) also told us, “Nothing is left of prophet hood except glad tidings.” Those with him asked, “What are glad tidings?” He (S) replied, “Good dreams.” (Bukhari).

Bad Dreams

As stated above bad dreams are from Satan. Muhammad (s.a.w) told us what to do upon seeing a bad dream. “So when one of you sees a dream which he does not like,he should spit on his left side
three times, seek refuge with Allah from Satan thrice, and change the side which he was lying (Muslim) and in another narration in Muslim, Muhammad (S) told us if we spit three times and seek refuge from Allah then it (the dream) will not harm them.” (Muslim).

Muhammad (s.a.w) also told us that if we saw a bad dream to “stand up and offer prayer.” (Muslim).

Bad Dreams Should Not Be Disclosed

Muhammad (s.a.w) said, …If he has a dream that he dislikes, then it is from Satan He should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and he SHOULD NOT MENTION IT TO ANYBODY, then it will not harm him.” (Bukhari) If one does tell somebody about the bad dream then there could be the chance that some harm will come out of it.

Dreams from One’s Self

These dreams come from one’s thoughts and are neither from Allah or Satan

Lying About Dreams

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said, “Indeed the worst of lies is that of a person who falsely claims to have dream.” (Bukhari) also ‘Whoever claims to have dream which he did not have, will be ordered
to tie two barley grains together, which he will never be able to do; and if somebody eavesdrop on some people’s conversation which they didn’t want him to hear or they tried to keep away from him, then molten lead will be poured into his ears on the Day of Resurrection; and whosoever makes a picture (of a being with a soul) will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and (will) be ordered to put a soul in it, which he will not be able to do.” (Bukhari)

Since your dream was from Shaythan then you should spit on your left side
three times, seek refuge with Allah from Satan thrice by saying A'udhu billaahi minashaythanirajeem, and change the side which you are lying in.
